Set in
the small, fictional, English South coast seaside town of Walmington-on-Sea,
during WW2, the programme followed the adventures of the
Local Defence Volunteers, otherwise known as the Home
Guard. The Home Guard was established
after Anthony Eden's historic speech of June 1940,
calling for men not able to participate in active service
(by reason of age), to form local
defence corps. |

Dad's
Army was released in many formats over the years, on tv,
radio, on stage and on the big screen. At the present
time, you can buy episodes from the tv series on video.
Interestingly, there are five missing episodes and
the spin-off for radio, It Sticks Out Half A Mile,
featuring John Le Mesurier, Ian Lavender and Bill
Pertwee, was seemingly never preserved for the BBC
archives. |
