A Swedish band from the Seventies, they first appeared
internationally at the Eurovision Song Contest
held in Brighton), in 1974, singing Waterloo
(with which they won). Following numerous hits all over
the world, the band split in November 1982 and went their separate
ways. |

Their most famous hit must be Dancing Queen. ABBA first performed this
song at the celebrations for the marriage of the King of Sweden to Silvia
Sommerlath. It topped the singles chart in the UK (6 weeks at number one),
across Europe and even made it to number one in the States. They also made
a film ABBA - The Movie in 1977 (the year I was born!) and the
accompanying album went platinum almost immediately. |

| Frida is living in Germany with her
husband and is still in the music business and last year her album
went straight to the top of the Swedish charts. Benny and Bjorn have both continued to write and
have had many successes with different musicals. Agnetha has led the quietest life of them
all, living on an island and practising yoga, preferring to keep out
of the lime light. |

| The musical currently playing to sold out
audiences, Mamma Mia!,
features loads of ABBA hits and was developed by Bjorn and Benny. It
is currently showing in the West End (Prince Edward Theatre, London)
and enjoying great popularity. Click here to visit the musical's official website. I
went to see it last August (2000) and you can read my review soon in my
new reviews section. |
