Mel comes from Leatherhead and
went to olde worlde Cambridge University, where she
studied French and Italian. She first met Sue
in a smoky bar, where Sue was performing a stand-up
routine. When Sue came off stage, Mel said,
"Hello Sue, welcome to the bosom of comedy."
From there, the friendship saw them team up as a
comedy double-act after various attempts at gainful
employment. "I taught English in a school in
Bologna. They were supposed to be 14 to
18-year-olds, but many of them had failed the course
so many times they were still there at 22." |
