Mel and Sue's big break came with the Channel 4 show LIGHT
LUNCH, on every weekday lunchtime. The show was a
mixture of cooking, chat and comedy, with a celebrity chef,
celebrity guests and a top band. |
The series gained cult status (especially amongst the student
community) and moved from lunchtime to a teatime/early evening
slot under the new title, LATE LUNCH. The show
still had the guests etc. but the cookery was sidelined. |
The shows attracted celebrities such as French & Saunders, the
old Valerie Singleton Blue Peter team, Terry Wogan, Alison Steadman and
David Hasslehoff (and his 'mushroom brogues'), to name but a
few. |
Sadly on 3rd March 1999, the last ever show was broadcast and
so ended the era of comedy cuisine. |
That is a potted history of the shows which helped make Mel &
Sue famous. Over time I plan to extend this section to
cover all manner of things connected with LIGHT/LATE LUNCH,
including favourite shows, so please come back soon and see
what I've cooked up for your digestion. Good evening! |
