| On 3 March 1999, the last Late Lunch (formerly Light Lunch) was
broadcast, ending the two year era that was the televisual presence of Mel and Sue. |
| |
It was a sad moment, but all is not lost! They have their
own website (albeit very rarely updated) and have completed a
comedy tour around Great Britain (albeit now a long time
ago). I had the privilege of
going to see one of these comedic extravaganzas and
thought it was superb. Sue
wore black in the first part and Mel wore white and then they swapped
after the interval - as *black is so part one*.
|
| |
They opened with a song to introduce
themselves and the band, then launched into sketches, more
songs and general observations on life. Sue did a
fantastic Sharon Stone
impression (thankfully not going as far as Basic Instinct). |

The best bit of the show was when Sue played a
'naughty' trick on Mel, during the Austrian sexual therapist sketch. I
won't go into all the details, suffice it to say that if you ever saw the Light Lunch with French
and Saunders then you will probably have a good idea of what went on. V
funny. |

|
I thought that the two solo moments were v good - Sue's was
about trying to give up fags (cigarettes that is) and involved
Mel coming on stage in a giant cigarette outfit. Mel's moment was
singing *I'm every woman*, only for Sue to cruelly tell her that she
wasn't! |
| |
 |
The best sketch was about two ladies at a bus-stop in London, during the War -
Mel had a very special relationship with the butcher and the Sue
just wanted to get some game.

The lighting effects were v clever and extremely well done
and the Band (although not the complete LL band) were v good
indeed. |
